Helping Horses

Sometimes deciding when to retire a horse is an obvious decision. An injury or aging leaves a horse unable to be ridden anymore. OTRA MAS believes horses deserve to be loved and well cared for their entire lives whether they can be ridden or not. Horses that come to OTRA MAS are given a forever home, and a new purpose in life, as partners in our Equine Therapy and Mental Wellness programs.

Many horses are imprinted at birth and crave daily interaction with humans and other horses. These particular horses don’t do well in a pasture - they often feel abandoned, lonely, and without purpose. After a lifetime of gratifying “work,” they are now missing their reason for being. As members of the OTRA MAS herd, these horses are given a new lease on life, through daily interaction with humans and other horses and a new career providing valuable help to members of our Southern California communities.

The care the OTRA MAS horses receive is superb - our staff is knowledgeable about the needs of a retired horse, including nutrition, exercise, coat care, dentistry, and general welfare. We continually strive to stay abreast of the industry’s best practices and model our therapy programs to reach the highest levels of success in helping people in our community. Our staff works tirelessly every day, caring for these wonderful horses that are in need of a secure place in life.

The story of Otra Mas is simple: We provide a loving, forever home for retired horses while helping our community’s most vulnerable to achieve happier and healthier lives.

We believe that together, we can save one more horse to help one more person.

The work of OTRA MAS is supported primarily by donations from individuals and corporations and is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. All donations made to Otra Mas are fully tax-deductible as allowed by law.

OTRA MAS also provides immediate shelter and aid for horses during emergencies and natural disasters.
